Kennedy/Johnson bumper sticker with pins added by original owner

1960 Kennedy/Johnson presidential campaign bumper sticker with five Kennedy/Johnson campaign buttons attached. On the bottom edge of the sticker the following instructions are printed alongside a small logo: "Aldine Co., Los Angeles 15. To apply: Peel off backing, press firmly to clean bumper. To remove easily, saturate banner with any solvent." Three of the five campaign pins have images of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson in the center with "New Leadership" in a red banner above and "Kennedy Johnson" in a blue banner below. One of these pins (far left) has "I love Donny" scratched into the surface.The other two buttons are smaller and simply say "Kennedy and Johnson."

Curatorial Note:

Phil Willis (1918-1995), the original collector of this item, was a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps who survived the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941 and was also an eyewitness to the Kennedy assassination. He took a series of important color photographs of the Kennedy motorcade and the Dealey Plaza aftermath which continue to be studied by researchers around the world. During the 1960 election, Willis was a very active local volunteer for the Kennedy/Johnson campaign. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
