Curatorial Note:

Artist Tansill Stough-Anthony initially did not intend to create a series when she completed her painting of Jacqueline Kennedy. However, as she read and learned more about the Kennedys and the assassination, she was inspired to create additional works one by one. Her second painting in the series, based on famous images of John F. Kennedy, Jr. (on his third birthday) saluting his father's casket outside of St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on November 25, 1963, was finished "very quickly." Upon completion, Stough-Anthony was surprised and pleased to see what looked to her like "an angel wing" on Kennedy's right side. To the artist, this coincidence was "so appropriate because he looks like a little angel saluting his daddy." -- Stephen Fagin, Curator

This is one of three paintings in the "Fading Memories" series that was selected for display at the Arkansas Governor's Mansion in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination in 2013. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
