Image 5 from Negative Strip 17: Parkland of a man speaking to reporters during a press conference
Original 35mm black and white negative taken by unidentified Dallas Times Herald staff photographer. This image shows Assistant Press Secretary Malcolm Kilduff conducting the press conference announcing President Kennedy's death at 1:30pm at Parkland Hospital on November 22, 1963. Bob Welch, a WBAP-TV reporter is the gentleman behind the camera in this image. Bob Fenley, a Dallas Times Herald reporter, is to the right of Bob Welch in the lower left corner of the image. The negative is on Kodak Tri-X Pan Film. The image is labeled #5 on section 1 of negative strip 17.The old TMS record for the images on this negative strip did not identify a photographer. Based on research conducted by collections intern Mark Davies in June and July 2012, curatorial and collections staff concluded that while the specific photographer cannot be identified, we do know it was one of two men: There were two DTH photographers at Parkland Hospital that day who stayed for the press conference - Eamon Kennedy and John Mazziotta. One of them took these photos. Bob Jackson, who was at Parkland earlier, was not present at the press conference. (Katie Womack, 7/17/13)Shots taken during the press conference as Malcolm Kilduff announces that the President has died. Bob Welch, of WBAP-TV, can be seen behind his camera; Bob Fenley, a Dallas Times Herald reporter, can also be seen at the left corner of the image
