The eternal flame atop the grave is surrounded by hats from the various armed forces, as well as flowers and memorials. Dozens of people surround the fence. A soldier stands guard over the grave. This picture was taken approximately six months after the assassination, in the spring of 1964. The president's permanent gravesite was finished in early 1967, a little further down the hill.
