Richard Smiley Oral History

Videotaped oral history interview with Richard Smiley. A native of Selma, Alabama, at age sixteen Smiley experienced the violence of “Bloody Sunday,” March 7, 1965. He then took part in the five-day march from Selma to Montgomery. After joining the staff of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Smiley was active with voter registration in Georgia and Alabama. Interview conducted via Zoom on January 19, 2023 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-one minutes long.
