Curatorial Note:

This program with Pierre Salinger was part of Sun & Star 1996, a prominent cultural festival held in Dallas/Fort Worth between September and December 1996 that was jointly coordinated and funded by the United States and Japan. At the time, it was called "the most significant festival of Japanese culture ever to be planned for the United States." According to a contemporary press release, virtually every DFW cultural institution took part "by organizing, presenting, or producing an exhibition or event that focuses on historical or contemporary Japanese culture." Since Salinger was en route to Japan with members of the Kennedy Cabinet at the time of the assassination, The Sixth Floor Museum was able to contribute to Sun & Star 1996 through this unique conversation. Mr. Salinger passed away on October 16, 2004. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
