Paul McCaghren Oral History

Videotaped oral history interview with Paul McCaghren. A Dallas police lieutenant in 1963, McCaghren was assigned to the Dallas Trade Mart when the assassination took place. In the aftermath, he was part of an internal investigation into the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald in the basement of police headquarters. Interview recorded at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on October 31, 2003 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-four minutes long.

At age 90 in 2022, Paul McCaghren is one of the last surviving Dallas police officials who played a key investigative role in the aftermath of the Kennedy assassination. Born in 1932, McCaghren worked for the Dallas Police Department from 1953 to 1974, rising to the rank of assistant chief (1970-72). After leaving the department, he started a security consulting and investigative services business. He was president of the company for thirty-one years and remained a consultant until retiring in 2010. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
