Richard Stolley Legacy Special Event Program

At this private Legacy event, the former Los Angeles bureau manager for Life magazine discussed his role in purchasing the rights to the Abraham Zapruder home movie of the Kennedy assassination.

Program titled “Legacy 1996: A Conversation with Richard Stolley.” The senior editorial advisor of Time, Inc. and founding managing editor of People Magazine, Stolley was the Los Angeles bureau chief for Life Magazine in 1963. Immediately after the assassination, he traveled to Dallas and negotiated the magazine’s purchase of the rights to the Abraham Zapruder film.

This program was recorded at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1996 and was moderated by Jeff West. In partnership with the Japan-America Society’s Sun and Star Project, White House Press Secretary Pierre Salinger discussed at this private event the Kennedy years and his memories of being en-route to Japan at the time of the assassination.52 minutesVideotaped program with Pierre Salinger. Salinger served as White House Press Secretary for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson (1961-64) and was briefly a U.S. senator from California (1964). At the time of the assassination in 1963, Salinger was en route to Japan with a group of cabinet members.

This program, part of the Sun & Star 1996 cultural festival in Dallas-Fort Worth, was recorded at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on September 9, 1996 and was moderated by Jeff West. The program is fifty minutes long.
