Mickey Herskowitz Oral History
Audio oral history interview with Mickey Herskowitz. As a Houston journalist, Herskowitz brief met Senator John F. Kennedy and also covered the desegregation of local sports. Herskowitz has since become a prolific author, jointly writing the autobiographies of numerous individuals including John and Nellie Connally, Dan Rather and Leon Jaworski. Interview conducted via telephone on October 31, 2014 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is one hour and sixteen minutes long.

Mickey Herskowitz has written more than fifty books, most being jointly written or ghostwritten autobiographies of notable figures in politics, sports and news media. In addition to John and Nellie Connally and Dan Rather, that list includes Nolan Ryan, Prescott Bush, Bette Davis, Gene Autry, Mickey Mantle, Shirley Jones and Howard Cosell. Interestingly, Herskowitz was hired in 1999 to quickly ghostwrite the autobiography of then-Texas Governor George W. Bush. Although Herskowitz met with Bush close to twenty times, he was replaced by Bush aide Karen Hughes after ten finished chapters were submitted to the governor. The book, A Charge to Keep, was published later that year. In History's Shadow by John Connally with Mickey Herskowitz was published in November 1993, some five months after the former governor passed away. Exactly ten years later, Herskowitz collaborated with Governor Connally's widow, Nellie, for the best-selling memoir, From Love Field: Our Final Hours with President John F.
