Luke Mooney Oral History
Videotaped oral history interview with Luke Mooney. A Dallas County deputy sheriff in 1963, Mooney observed the presidential motorcade near the corner of Main and Houston Streets and heard shots fired in Dealey Plaza. Less than forty-five minutes later, while searching the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository, Mooney discovered the sniper's perch and three empty rifle shells. Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on December 4, 2002 by Gary Mack and Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-four minutes long.

After this initial interview in 2002, Luke Mooney became a good friend of The Sixth Floor Museum. In addition to later donating the suit of clothes he wore on November 22, 1963, as well as his deputy sheriff's badge (https://emuseum.jfk.org/objects/27315) and firearms, Mooney returned to the Museum for three public and educational programs between 2006 and 2010. His last appearance was less than five months before his passing on December 3, 2010.
