Audio oral history interview with Jewel Brown. A singer from Houston, Texas, Brown performed at Jack Ruby's Soverign Club in Dallas in 1960. She was touring with legendary jazz musician Louis Armstrong at the time of the assassination. Interview conducted by telephone on April 13, 2015 by Stephen Fagin. After a nearly forty-year break from music starting in 1968, Brown returned to singing in the mid-2000s and is still performing as of summer 2022. She plans to release a new album of music to commemorate her 85th birthday in 2022. Most recently, in early June 2022, she was honored with a two-day celebration by the Community Artists' Collective and Community Music Center of Houston. In an article highlighting the event, the Houston Chronicle called her "the Beyoncé of her time." -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
