Curatorial Note:

Dallas Times Herald reporter Darwin Payne described this scene in his oral history: The crowds were so intense that I remember it was demeaning, I thought, to police Chief Jesse Curry. One reporter propped his notepad up on Chief Curry’s back and just started taking notes as the police chief was talking. I mean, it was so crowded, you had a hard time doing it, but he was propped on his back. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
