Image 1 from Negative Strip 30: Oswald (Fri) of Lee Harvey Oswald in handcuffs exiting an office escorted by police officers
Original 120mm black and white negative taken by Dallas Times Herald staff photographer Darryl Heikes. This image shows Lee Harvey Oswald escorted by Dallas Police Detective Elmer Boyd as they leave the Homicide and Robbery Bureau at the Dallas Police Department headquarters on the afternoon of November 22, 1963. The negative is on Kodak Safety Film. This image is labeled #1 on section 1 of negative strip 30.The old TMS record for the images on this negative strip indicate that the photographer was Darryl Heikes. Based on research conducted by collections intern Mark Davies in June and July 2012, curatorial and collections staff concluded that Heikes (according to his own oral history) did indeed take these pictures. (Lindsey Richardson, 7/2/13) Also noted at that 2012 curatorial meeting: the shoulder on the right side of the image belongs to Jimmy Darnell of WBAP-TV, according to his oral history.
