Curatorial Note:

This ticket is featured in the special exhibit, Hotel Texas: An Art Exhibition for the President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy, on view at the Dallas Museum of Art from May 26 through September 15, 2013, and at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art from October 12, 2013 through January 12, 2014. The Sixth Floor Museum also produced a five-minute video, JFK's Final Days, that is included with the exhibit. - Megan Bryant, Director of Collections & Intellectual Property

Most of the 2000 or so seats in the hotel's Grand Ballroom were acquired by Republican and Democrat business owners, so local Democrats led by Texas Congressman Jim Wright arranged for a brief address by the President to supporters in the hotel's parking lot. The 8 a.m. start time was chosen so attendees could all be served and would start their meals by the time the President and First Lady arrived. Kennedy arrived late and Jackie came later, so his 9 a.m. address - which was broadcast on local TV - was also delayed several minutes. - Gary Mack, Curator

The menu for what would be President Kennedy's last breakfast was quite simple, consisting of scrambled eggs, ham, and fried potatoes. There were also bread baskets on the table, which by different accounts offered biscuits, rolls or perhaps both. Coffee, orange juice and water were also served. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
