Felix McKnight Oral History
Videotaped oral history interview with Felix McKnight. As managing editor at the Dallas Times Herald in 1963, McKnight coordinated news coverage of President Kennedy's visit to Dallas and the subsequent assassination and aftermath. He wrote the paper's original lead story for November 22, 1963, which was tossed out after the shooting took place.Interview recorded at Mr. McKnight's home on March 9, 1995 by Bob Porter. The interview is one hour and twenty minutes long.

Felix McKnight (1910-2004) began his career in journalism in 1928 and joined the Associated Press as a sportswriter in 1933. After a sixteen-year stint at The Dallas Morning News, McKnight joined the rival Dallas newspaper, the Dallas Times Herald, in 1957. There he finished out his distinguished career, retiring in 1988. Prior to the Kennedy assassination, he was one of only ten U.S. newspaper editors to tour the Soviet Union in 1962 and interview Premier Nikita Khrushchev. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
