Image of the front door of the Texas School Book Depository

35mm Kodachrome II color slide, #12 of 20 images, taken by Jay Skaggs from near the southwest corner of Elm and Houston Streets in Dealey Plaza looking north. This image shows the front door of the Texas School Book Depository, police guards and people, presumably Depository employees, leaving or standing nearby. Abraham Zapruder's receptionist, Marilyn Sitzman, who stood behind him while he filmed the assassination, waits on the sidewalk holding her purse. The photo is slightly blurred and overexposed.

Curatorial Note:

After listening to assassination eyewitnesses in Dealey Plaza that day, Jay Skaggs learned that some felt that shots had originated from the Texas School Book Depository. He made his way toward the entrance of the building and, surprisingly, made it inside the police perimeter. Dressed in a dark suit and hat, Skaggs "stayed out of the way and acted like...a [news] photographer." - Stephen Fagin, Curator
