Clint Hill Oral History
Videotaped oral history interview with Clint Hill. Hill jumped onto the back of the presidential limousine during the assassination - an action recorded in numerous photographs and home movies and which later made him the most recognized U.S. Secret Service agent on the Kennedy detail. He received an award for his service and continued to protect Mrs. Kennedy for one year after the shooting. Deeply affected by the assassination, Hill was reluctant to speak about the tragedy for years. In 2010, he collaborated with Gerald Blaine and Lisa McCubbin on the book "The Kennedy Detail."Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on November 18, 2010 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is one hour and thirty-four minutes long.

In addition to this oral history, Mr. Hill participated in a group interview with Gerald Blaine and a Museum public program with Gerald Blaine and Lisa McCubbin in November 2010. He and Ms. McCubbin returned to the Museum for videotaped public programs in April 2012 and May 2016. Since joining the staff of The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in 2000, I have often been asked to name the one person that I would like to interview for the Oral History Project. From August 2000 to November 2010 that individual was, without question, U.S. Secret Service agent Clint Hill. Having watched his emotional interview on 60 Minutes decades earlier, I never thought Mr. Hill would visit Dallas, let alone participate in a videotaped interview. This 94-minute session was moving and powerful, and it remains one of my personal favorites in the Oral History Collection. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
Part of this recording was incorporated into the video content of the Museum's temporary exhibit, "Mourning a President," about the funeral and mourning rites for President John F. Kennedy. The exhibit will be open on the Museum's seventh floor from November 17, 2017 to February 19, 2018. After the exhibit closes, the video associated with it will be available on the Museum's YouTube channel. -- Lindsey Richardson, Curator of Collections
