Living History with Dr. Lee Alvoid
June 28, 2024 | 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Join Museum Curator Stephen Fagin for a special Living History program featuring guest Dr. Lee Alvoid. Dr. Alvoid was co-editor of her high school newspaper in San Antonio in 1963. She briefly met President and Mrs. Kennedy, and attended a student press conference with the president, during the Kennedys’ visit to San Antonio on November 21, 1963. Prior to joining the faculty of Southern Methodist University in 2001, Dr. Alvoid spent the first thirty-two years of her career as a teacher and principal in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district in Texas.
Be sure to visit the seventh floor of the Museum, where the special exhibition Two Days in Texas is on display. Experience the story of President John F. Kennedy’s two-day trip through Texas with rarely seen objects and eyewitness interviews from each city the president visited, including Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth and Dallas. Each Friday during the exhibitions run, Museum staff host a special gallery talk at 1:00 p.m., offering an in-depth look beyond the exhibition. On the last Friday of each month, the Museum welcomes individuals with a direct connection to Two Days in Texas for a Living History program with Curator Stephen Fagin.
