Tarrant County ballot for the 1960 general election
Official ballot for Tarrant County for the general election held on November 8, 1960. This ballot includes candidates to elect from the "Democratic Party," "Republican Party," "Constitution Party," "Prohibition Party," "Independent," and also "Write-In." The candidates for President and Vice-President for the Democratic Party are John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson; for the Republican Party are Richard M. Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge.A number is printed at the top of each corner: "No. 80020." The top right corner has perforated edges, with black print inside. The text reads:"No. 80020TARRANT COUNTYDate: November 8, 1960GENERAL ELECTIONNote: Voter's Signature To Be Affixed on the Reverse Side."At the top of the ballot are instructions on how to cast a vote:"Vote for the candidate of your choice in each race by scratching or marking out all other names in that race. You may vote for all the candidates of a party by running a line through every other party column."

Although he narrowly won the state of Texas, Senator Kennedy lost Tarrant County to Vice President Nixon. Nixon received close to 73,000 votes (54.8%), while Kennedy received just over 59,000 votes (44.7%). A total of 788 voters chose a presidential candidate outside of the Democratic or Republican Party. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
