It is estimated that a crowd of 15,000 people attended Senator Kennedy's speech at Burk Burnett Park in Fort Worth on September 13, 1960. Kennedy was joined that day by his sister, Patricia Lawford, running mate Lyndon Johnson, Texas Governor Price Daniel, and a number of prominent local officials, including Texas's first female district judge, Sarah T. Hughes (who would later swear in Lyndon Johnson as the 36th president following the assassination on November 22, 1963). - Stephen Fagin, Curator
