The Museum observes Presidents Day and its own 18th anniversary by releasing a newly discovered home movie of the Kennedy motorcade in Dallas.

Museum Releases Newly Discovered Film of JFK Motorcade

DALLAS/February 19, 2007—On Monday, February 19, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza observed Presidents Day and the Museum’s 18th anniversary by releasing a newly discovered home movie of the Kennedy motorcade in Dallas. The silent 8mm color film was recently donated to the Museum by amateur photographer George Jefferies and his son-in-law, Wayne Graham. The film shows President John F. Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the fateful motorcade on Main Street at Lamar, less than 90 seconds before the November 22, 1963 assassination. The remainder of the 40-second-long film shows Dealey Plaza the next day.

“This film is the best view of Jackie I have ever seen,” says Museum curator Gary Mack. “We have had the film restored and enhanced for use in future Museum programs, news broadcasts and documentaries. Mr. Jefferies' film also shows Jackie's Secret Service bodyguard, Clint Hill, at one of the few times that day in which he rode on the car's rear bumper for her protection.”

Opened on Presidents Day in 1989, the Museum seeks to preserve all home movies and photographs from the Kennedy assassination weekend.

“Don't throw anything away,” advises Museum Executive Director Nicola Longford. “Such images, whether they show assassination events or not, may answer questions or contain other historical significance.” She adds: “Please call us if you have pictures.”

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy; interprets and supports the Dealey Plaza National Historic Landmark District and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza; and presents contemporary culture within the context of presidential history. Located at 411 Elm Street in the West End Historic District of downtown Dallas, the Museum is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas.
