Observation Wheel Installation Considered in Founders Plaza

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is opposed to the construction of an Observation Wheel in Founders Plaza next to the Kennedy Memorial and National Historic Landmark District, an area that includes Dealey Plaza and the former Texas School Book Depository. We ask the supporters of this project to look for other sites that would not dishonor the memory of former President John F. Kennedy and violate the integrity of such important historic landmarks.

With the approach of the fiftieth anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy, which occurred at Dealey Plaza in Dallas on November 22, 1963, we believe that the construction of an Observation Wheel so near the site of this tragic event would be disrespectful. The commemoration of this event requires great solemnity, and it must be done in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.

The final decision as to whether the Observation Wheel goes up in Founders Plaza rests with Dallas County.

This statement was approved by The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza Board of Directors on October 19, 2011.
